For those of you who aren’t familar with Angie Aparo, let me give you the background. He was signed to Melisma Records, a label formed by famed producer Matt Serletic (Matchbox 20, Rob Thomas, Collective Soul). In 2001 he released his first album “The American” on this label through a joint venture with Arista Records. The album ushered two singles, “Hush” and “Cry” but didn’t gain traction. A year later, his song “Cry” was covered by Faith Hill and became one of the biggest singles of 2002 as it crossed over into Top 40 radio. Although Angie Aparo isn’t a household name, this album is a great work of art with alot of catchy tunes. His songwriting ability is always praised by both Matt Serletic and Rob Thomas. He is currently the opening act for some of Matchbox 20’s “Exhile On Mainstream” Tour. Please take a moment to take a listen to this new addition in our digital catalog.
11 catalog albums by Willie Nelson will make their way to digital music stores tomorrow. Among them are Both Sides Now, Laying My Burdens Down, The Party’s Over and Words Don’t Fit The Picture. If you like country music, these albums are a must own!!
Also, more Philadelphia International Records (PIR) catalog will be released, 17 in all. The classic motown sounds of the east coast will include 4 catalog albums by Billy Paul and 3 by MFSB among others. Keep checking in for more catalog updates and be on the look out for many previously rare and missing jazz titles to start appearing soon, by Grammy Award winning Winton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.

One of the most exciting things about working with the catalog of SonyBMG is rediscovering entire sections of our catalog that, for one reason or another, have not gotten the love and attention that they deserve. Such was the case with our Spoken Word catalog.
The director of A&R for Masterworks and the host of all of the Masterworks Podcasts David Foil recently introduced me to a list he’d found of all of the spoken word products in our archive. There are such gems! from John Gielgud to Jimmy Stewart to presidential speeches, it’s amazing the kind of things we have.
When we confirmed that we were doing the soundtrack to the Ken Burns film The War , we immediately thought of our spoken word catalog and what might be most relevant and interesting to those millions of people tuning in.
Eight titles were selected that are representative. Have a listen:
